Study Abroad
Ancient Greek & Roman Studies majors are encouraged to spend a semester in Europe. Gettysburg offers two College-approved affiliated programs of special interest to those studying classics:
- College Year in Athens (a one-semester program despite the title!) focuses upon the history and civilization of ancient, Byzantine, and modern Greece and the East Mediterranean region. Students can choose among a wide variety of courses in the architecture, art, literature, and history of ancient Greece, as well as in other disciplines, and can study modern Greek, ancient Greek, and Latin. Included in the program are four faculty-led field trips to important ancient and modern sites in Greece over the course of the semester.
- The CIEE Semester in Rome program focuses on the history and civilization of ancient, medieval, Renaissance, and modern Rome and Italy more broadly. Students can take courses on the architecture, art, mythology, history, and daily life of the ancient Romans as well as courses in other areas, including business, sustainability, and psychology. All students enroll in an Italian language course and take part in excursions and activities around Italy and within the city of Rome.
